  • Did Biological Evolution really happen?

Yes. But the process of Evolution is not ‘Natural Selection’. It’s ‘Evolution by Intelligent Design’, with corresponding changes in the Genome.

  • Opinion on Sharing Economy

Sharing Economy is one way of Introducing Efficiency into the Economy.

Caution: Regulation; Security; (Is it really going to make the particular “Service” better?); Macroeconomic factors (the effect on traditional jobs, traditional way of doing things) etc.

Our Economies and Institutions are vastly inefficient. Introducing “Sharing Economy” Models & Services (with caution) is (or could be, Depending on how it’s applied in the particular case) just one way of getting things work better.

  • Jesus is ‘The way’. So, should the followers of Jesus constrain themselves to the study of Biology and Social Sciences only (Assuming that Jesus never used ‘Technology’, nor studied ‘Physics’ as we know it today)?

Brain Scientists wonder about the Relation between Language and Thought. They ask: Does Language influence Thought? (It’s one of those famous yet-to-be-answered questions in Cognitive, Psychological & Behavioral Sciences.)

The answer: Language influences and shapes Thought.

Our Use of Language is Constrained by Each Individual’s ‘Learned Models’ for words and concepts that are being used.

When we use the term ‘Technology’, most of us visualize and mean ‘Complex Machines’ (Our ‘Learned Model’ for the word ‘Technology’).

Many reason: “There weren’t ‘Complex Machines’ in Jesus’s time. So, ‘maybe’ ‘Technology’ is not ‘the way’. And, wouldn’t it be better if we could completely go back to life at earlier times?”

To answer, we should first consider: Is ‘Technology’ really limited to Complex Machines only? Or more precisely: Is our Use of Language correct in this particular instance?

Any man-made object that Makes life Easier and Better for people is ‘Technology’. So ‘Wheels’ are Technologies. There were ‘Chariots’ in Jesus’s time; now, we have ‘Cars’; next: ‘Autonomous Electric Vehicles’. There were lamps, now we have light bulbs, and many are moving to LED bulbs. It’s Evolution of Technology.

‘Technologies’ we use today surely aren’t perfect. We are At a certain stage in our progression towards Ultimate Technological PossibilitiesNear future will bring Better Technologies that have Less to Zero Side-effects (e.g., Less to zero Environmental Effects – Electric Cars and LED bulbs), Technologies that are more Humane (Computers with near perfect Speech Recognition, human-centered design for Products), and Technologies that are nearly or equally as Complex as Life (Life-like systems built with Nanotechnology).

God created the Universe and God knows more Physics than any of you could ever imagine! Jesus is God.

Future Scenario: Whichever Physician you choose, your Doctor can instantly access all your previous Health records; provided, you give permission to the Doctor (on a selective basis if you want to keep some of your records Private – “The Privacy Factor”). Plus Privacy from Insurance Companies.
  2. Cloud Storage: So that any healthcare provider can access patient record.
  3. Health Parameter Tuning: So that EMR generate accurate alerts.
  4. Personalized Medicine: Personalized Medicine will be “adaptive” in the sense that the EMR system will “continuously” monitor and tune dosages of drugs, etc and hence “personalize” treatment for each individual patient.  
  5. Merging of Medical Big Data & Molecular Medicine: Molecular Medicine will reach a point when Doctors can adapt treatments and predict in advance the effects (in body) of dosage changes “accurately”.

Current Stage Of Genomics & “Molecular Medicine” Research & The Future

 

The current stage of Genomics is:

So we have people with a certain Disorder (say, “X”).

Let’s gather Genomic Data of as many persons as we can with “X” Disorder and find similarities in their Genomes to find out which “Gene”s could be responsible for the “X” Disorder.

This approach is limited.

To see why, let’s go through a quick lesson in Biology.

 

All of the Cells in our body have the same DNA.

But a Cell in our “Heart” behaves differently than a Cell in “Skin”.

The Genetic Material is the same, but Behavior is different.

How?

 

Proteins (Transcription Factors) inside the Cell and different elements in the Extra-Cellular Matrix makes the difference.
The “Proteins (Transcription Factors) inside the Cell and elements in the Extra-Cellular Matrix” of Heart Cell is what make it behave differently than a Cell in your Skin.

All of our Cells contain the identical Genetic Material to the first Cell that made us.
“Differential Gene Expression” is how that Cell gradually turned into the Cells of Skin, Heart, Pancreas, etc.

Now, suppose a person say, “A” has a certain disorder / disability say, “D”.

Suppose, the “D” disorder makes “A”‘s Motor Neurons shrink with time.

It would be “of limited view” to try to find out “the Gene” responsible for the disorder “D”.

Because each “Gene” that expresses itself through “Proteins” effects our body in different ways depending on in which part of the body the Protein is acting.

A particular “Gene” say, “G1” encoding certain Protein in our “Skin cell” might have different effect than

the same “G1” Gene encoding the same “Protein” (but involved in a different “Gene Regulatory Network”) in our “Motor Neuron”.

A better approach is to consider the effect of “Network of Genes” involved in a certain “Gene Regulatory Network”.

“Network of Genes” involved in different “Gene Regulatory Network”s express themselves to structure our Phenotype (and also our “Disorders” and “Disabilities”).

 

As we can see, Biologists should always keep in mind that:

“It’s not a single Gene that cause a certain Disorder, but ‘A Network of Genes’ involved in a certain “Gene Regulatory Network” that do.”

 

“A Network of Genes” translated into Proteins 

(a Protein itself could be defective or it could be “A wrong set of Proteins”) 

interacting in less-than-normal ways with other Proteins and Molecules

– From a macro perspective we classify this misbehavior as one of the (already classified) Disorders.

 – This is a “Molecular definition” of Diseases and Disorders.

Then why do Biologists approach “Molecular Medicine” this way (the Current approach):

“Let’s gather Genomic Data of as many persons as we can with “X” disorder and find similarities in their Genomes to find out which “Gene”s could be responsible for the “X” disorder”

The reason: Biology as a Science, is yet to mature.
Biologists still struggle to find out which Genes encode which Protein with a certain feature.

 

We are still far from complete understanding of:

Gene ->  Differential Gene Expression ->  Phenotype / Disorder / Disabilities.

Our current approach is to find out:

Gene  ->  Disorder / Disabilities.

“Let’s get as many people as we can with a certain Disorder and search their Genome to find the “Gene” responsible for the “Disorder”.

an approach which, as I have explained, is limited.
